key to our success: YOUR social awareness, cultural sensitivity, compassion & empathy
Motion pictures have immense power to raise awareness for overlooked social issues and to give voice to the voiceless. We hope that our movie initiative to raise awareness for Battered Woman Syndrome (BWS) is a conduit for positive change for the victims. You will agree that a two-hour long cause-oriented movie can deliver a strong message to millions of households worldwide as soon as the movie is released. It might take millions of hours and many years for our Foundation to deliver the same story/message worldwide, which will be cost-prohibitive and not as effective as an infotainment movie.
Battered Woman Syndrome affects abused women of all nationalities, race, color, creed and religion. We know each woman who has been through such hellish experience has a unique story to tell. We have, however, decided to make a movie based on an Indian woman's story and her struggle in the U.S. She is away from her parents in India and completely cutoff from having a support system in a foreign land. She has been bearing relentless mental torture at the hands of her demonic husband for over two decades. Our personal familiarity with the victim, also the lead female role in the movie and the completeness of her real-life tragic story is what makes it so compelling to make this movie. It depicts her struggles, the yearning for freedom, her ambition to stand on her own feet, the fear of the unknown and still trying to grab on to a rope of hope as she is drowning in the sea of hopelessness. Stands true for every abused victim regardless of who or where they are from.
Most of us know that some of our great soldiers suffer from Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD) when they go through traumatic events on the battlefield. But PTSD of a victim suffering from Battered Woman Syndrome is completely overlooked by the world. Let's not leave our sisters on the BWS battlefield to fight it all alone. Historically, filmmakers have sent a wrong message to the audience and public at large. Most movies have depicted that a female victim finds courage in the end to fight her abuser and is hailed as a heroine. Therefore, most people in real life walk away from helping the victims of domestic abuse because they wrongfully assume that the victims will be able to fight the abuser on their own.
One may ask, "why don't they just leave the abuser?" Easier said than done. In reality, most victims of domestic abuse suffer from BWS and do not have the strength or the resources to fight their abuser. We have seen it firsthand how victims have capitulated to the aggression of their abusers and accepted to live like zombies to “get through their life.” They live a lonely life of shame, disgust, dishonor and dependency. We strongly believe that this must stop, and these victims deserve a good life of honor, self-respect and independence.
Through the movie, Abhagan™ (The Unfortunate™) we want to set the record straight and bring awareness to the issue so that people step forward to support the victims rather than leave them on their own to fight the abuse.
Experts are predicting that the subject matter of the movie, Abhagan™ (The Unfortunate™) has the potential to win many international film awards. A worldwide audience will be requested to support brands that will make it possible to bring this heart-wrenching social issue to light. India and Indians worldwide are a huge market for any company seeking their brand loyalty by supporting this movie.
For corporate sponsors, we are offering to masterfully incorporate their brands in the film without making it an "in-your-face" advertising campaign. Large (non-commercial) donors will be recognized through promotional credits. Please contact us to learn more about the possibilities.
We plan to produce a movie to raise awareness about BWS. The movie "Abhagan" (English translation: "The Unfortunate") will be made in Hindi and dubbed in many languages, including English. The movie production is scheduled for August 2025. This movie is based on a real-life story of a woman trapped in a horrifying marriage; isolated in a land foreign to her; living in "shame" of social & cultural dogmas; financially dependent on her abuser for her basic survival. Gut wrenching!
